"In Him(Christ) was light and that light was the light of men. And the light shines in the darkness and the darkness has not overcome it. " (John 1. 5)
A couple of weekends ago we were with some friends going out to eat. We ended up in a not-so-nice part of a downtown city. I didn't really think much about it - I had lived in an inner-city area one summer in college. But some in the group were a little nervous about walking through that part of town. I understood where they were coming - they just aren't exposed to that in their normal life.
After dinner we had about a whole pizza left and one of the gals brought it with her and gave it away. One pan-handler flat out rejected it - wanting money instead. Some guys by a tattoo parlor wanted it, and gave her a thank-you hug.
In that kind of moment all I could think of was that verse.
Our ignorance about them - darkness.
Their assumptions about us - all darkness.
Being afraid of each other- darkness.
The love of Christ to reach out - light.
And that light always wins.

That is the most beautiful thing I've heard in a while... thank you!
